Gerry Furgason has been painting landscape art since the early 70’s. Her work captures the essence of contemporary forest and woodland scenery in the American landscape. Although Gerry has depicted American landscapes and art in multiple mediums over the years, she specializes in oil painting.
Born in Kentucky, Gerry K. Furgason received art training at the University of Louisville. After residing in Texas and North Carolina for a number of years, she returned to her hometown of Louisville in 1971. Since that time, she has worked in independent study, devoting much time to painting, teaching and exhibiting both in the area and out of state.
Landscapes by the artist deal with the beauty of remote areas seldom appreciated by those who have not ventured into the woods or wilderness. Her works are held in the public and private collections of owners throughout the United States and abroad.
Miniature sculpture works by the artist include collectible ornaments, figurines and houses. Titled, “Renaissance Angels”, “Guardian Angels”, “Bluegrass Valley Elves”, “Christmas Ornaments” and “Olde Towne Village”, the sculpture works have intricate detail and offer a fascinating glimpse into the miniature world of art.
Gerry has been active in organizations devoted to the advancement of the visual arts. As assistant superintendent in the Kentucky State Fair Fine Arts And Crafts Department and Executive Director of The Falls City Community Art Gallery, she had the opportunity of gaining an expanded knowledge of the art world. Through meeting and assisting artists of varied interests, she earned the titles, “Little Miss Sunshine”
and “Mother Theresa of The Art World”.
Gerry’s art energies have not been limited to easel and brush. Her weekly column, ”Painting The Scene” was carried in a Louisville newspaper for thirteen years. The column highlighted events of interest to artists and craftsmen with special emphasis placed on art exhibitions and competitions.
It is hoped that the works of Gerry K. Furgason will be enjoyed by all who view them and that the pleasure derived in so doing will again return during quiet moments of reverie.
Specialties
Because of her respect for nature’s unsung splendor, Gerry turned to printing scenes from her favorite painting locations.
The first in the landscape series is her “Kernen’s Falls Autumn”, followed by her award winning, “Scotty’s Retreat” and the captivating
rendering of historic Wolf Pen Mill, “Winter At The Mill”.
